About Us
Tim Burns opened Burns Music Studios in October 1990. Being a
schooled musician as well as having a backround in Blues, Rock, Pop and Theater
music, it was Mr. Burns desire to offer a broad based approach to music
instruction. Rather then just teaching the latest "hit" tune, he stressed sight
reading, chord and scale structure, improvisation, theory, as well as many
different styles of playing. This is combined with teaching whatever might be
the student's personal favorites. The goal was to give the student the tools
needed to analyze and understand whatever music they might need or want to
play. Students work out of recognized method books but are also encouraged to
develop their ears, often called aural skills. We strive to help you develop a
combination of sound music theory and the skills necessary to be a professional
musician, or educated amateur.
With this approach in mind, the faculty of Burns Music Studios
are degreed professionals with expierience in a wide variety of musical
styles and genre's. We offer lessons on all instruments and styles including:
Guitar, Piano, Voice, Bass, Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, Drums and Percussion. Lessons
are generally 1/2 hour but hour lessons are available upon request.
Twice a year, Burns Music sponsors Student Performance Night.
This is an opportunity for students to gain performance expierience. It
is open to all students who wish to participate. All styles and instruments
are featured from solo voice or instrument to large ensemble pieces. For those
who need it, the teachers form a backup band with music charts written for the
songs involved. There is a rehearsel the day before the show to give the
student some extra practice with the band if needed. Students who have their
own bands may perform with their band, music subject to approval of their
teacher. The recital takes place on a professional stage with sound and
lighting as well as keyboards, drums and amplifiers provided. Open to the
public, these recitals are planned 2 months in advance. Pictures from the most
recent show are posted here on our Students page.
